Posted November 23, 2017 11:18:23Republican Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana has accused the FBI of “lacking the resources” to investigate Clinton’s server during the 2016 election.
Speaking to the radio station WDSU on Thursday, Scalise said the bureau’s probe into the Clinton email server could “come to a crisis.”
“If we get it to a point where the FBI cannot get a handle on this case, and we’re dealing with a candidate who is going to be President of the United States, that could be a disaster,” Scalise told the station.
The FBI opened an investigation into the server last July.
The bureau has not yet announced whether it will reopen the case.
On Thursday, Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill also voiced concern that the FBI’s investigation could fall apart, saying it’s “not a good look” for the bureau to open up a new probe into Clinton’s emails without the agency’s full investigation.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz Jason ChaffetMatt Schlapp: Trump ‘never did anything wrong’ on firing Comey MORE (R-Utah) told reporters on Thursday that the bureau should reopen the investigation into Clinton because there is “a lot of information there.”
“It’s been a long time coming, but I think it’s finally time for the FBI to open its investigation,” Chaffetz said.
“It would be a bad look for the Department of Justice to open a new investigation if they’ve already had all of this information and there’s no real reason to reopen,” he added.
A number of Republicans have said the FBI should open a separate investigation into potential ties between Trump associates and Russia.
Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have said that if Trump associates had information about Clinton’s private server, they should have been given the opportunity to turn over it.
